Here are a few of the other species of owls that I’ve photographed, but just haven’t spent a lot of time with — the barn, barred, spotted, long-eared, elf, northern saw-whet, whiskered and western screech owl.

The barn, barred, and western screech owls are species that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing, but not enough to have their own dedicated gallery. The barn owl is the most commonly spread owl in North America. They can often be found in… Well, barns. The barred owl is a species that is extremely adaptive like great horned owls. Barred owls are highly skilled hunters that can survive in almost any habitat. The western screech owl is a small stocky owl, only about 8 inches tall. Despite their name and popular belief, western screech owls do not screech, they make a “bouncing ball” call that is a series of sped-up toots like a bouncing ping pong.
